Many people bet on Bitcoin with borrowed money. If the price moves against them too far, the exchange force-closes their bet — that is a “liquidation.” A heatmap shows the price levels where lots of these forced exits are stacked up. Those levels act like magnets: when the price gets close, the forced selling or buying pulls it in and can set off a chain reaction.
