Your machine
New to mining? The words, simplyA machine not on our list: type its numbers below.
An EU shop’s price on 23 October 2026. Type today’s.
€0.2401: Eurostat’s Greek household price with taxes, for homes using 2,500 to 4,999 kWh a year, first half of 2026. Your bill may differ.

The words, simply
- Mining and blocks
- Mining is a race to add the next block, a batch of payments, to a network’s public record. On average a block comes about every 10 minutes on Bitcoin, every 15 seconds on Ethereum Classic and ten times a second on Kaspa. The winner gets the block’s reward. A miner is a machine in that race, or the person who runs it.
- Hashratespeed
- How many tries a second the machine makes in that race. On average, its share of all the network’s tries is its share of the rewards. Units: k thousand, M million, G billion, T trillion, P thousand trillion, E million trillion, Z billion trillion. H/s counts tries a second; Zcash uses Sol/s, its own unit for the same idea.
- Powerelectricity use
- The electricity the machine draws, in watts (W), as shops list it. 1,000 W for one hour is 1 kWh on your bill; 2,780 W all day is 66.7 kWh.
- EfficiencyJ/TH
- Shops write it as electricity per unit of speed: watts divided by hashrate, in joules per TH (J/TH) for Bitcoin. The smaller the number, the less electricity for the same speed.
- Algorithm
- The puzzle a network uses: SHA-256 for Bitcoin, Scrypt for Litecoin and Dogecoin, Equihash for Zcash, kHeavyHash for Kaspa, Etchash for Ethereum Classic, RandomX for Monero. A mining chip (ASIC) is usually built for one algorithm; ordinary computers and graphics cards can switch.
- The coin
- What the network pays you in: BTC on Bitcoin, ZEC on Zcash. Its price decides what your share is worth; the result shows how far it is from its all-time high on CoinGecko (other price sites can give other highs; for Zcash, much higher).
- Pool
- A group of miners who share the rewards by speed, so you are credited a little every day instead of rarely and by luck, and paid once you reach the pool’s minimum. It usually keeps a fee.
What moves the answer
The result is a picture of today. Four things change it, some of them fast.

The price
Earnings follow the price of what you mine, up or down, every day.

The network
When more machines join, each one gets a smaller share of the same reward.

Your electricity
A 3 kW machine uses 72 kWh a day: each cent more per kWh costs €0.72 a day.

Reward cuts
Halvings cut the new coins each block pays in half: Litecoin about July 2027, Bitcoin about April 2028, Zcash about November 2028. Kaspa pays a little less every month.

Good to know
How it is worked out: your share of the network’s speed, times the coins miners get a day, times the price, less the pool fee; then electricity is taken off. It is today’s picture, not a forecast.
- Big air-cooled miners are loud and hot: the Z15 Pro is listed at 70 to 75 dB. Ask an electrician before running 2 to 4 kW all day.
- A pre-order ships months later. By then the network and the price can be very different.
- Zcash’s developers aim to switch on an upgrade at block 3,543,405, around 5 November 2026: blocks about three times faster, about a third of the reward per block, the same coins a day. Crosslink, which would add rewards for holders who lock up ZEC, is still in testing and could change what miners get.
- Monero changed its mining rules in 2018 and 2019 to shut out special mining chips. A reworked algorithm, RandomX v2, meant to cut such chips’ edge, has run on a test network since 5 October 2026; there is no date yet for the main network.
- On a pool that pays both, a Scrypt machine earns Litecoin and Dogecoin at the same time, so the result adds the two.
- Left out: income tax, shipping, repairs, a pool’s minimum payout. The terms of the shop we took prices from say sales of industrial miners are final.
